I've just finished reading Voices in Time by Canadian author Hugh MacLennan. A synthesis of speculative and historical fiction published in 1980 and set in 2030 - after the destruction of Western civilization.
His story of the middle and late 20th century resonates eerily with events occurring today.
His characters are all too human.
