    @superpositionedkat @whitequark my experience is that paper tends to move in semi-arbitrary ways if you do not weigh it down, with the tendency increasing noticably in a bound codex, and increasing exponentially more than that if there are cats in the building

        @mcc I concur. Using my preferred font in 22pt is an accessibility blessing. I only miss the new book smell.

          @mcc @superpositionedkat @whitequark
          I currently don't live with a cat, but when I lived with a baby, that baby was also able to turn pages on my e-book.

          (And it once completely destroyed a printed-on-paper magazine.)

            @mcc I have an amber clip-on reading light for reading in bed. Still not as good as an e-reader, but doable

              @mcc this seems like a solvable problem but not in ways that don’t involve unhealthy radiation and/or heavy metal exposure. probably for the best we invented ereaders instead

                @mcc@mastodon.social @whitequark@social.treehouse.systems (I would suggest the possibility that it is not truly possible to "own" a cat, though I suspect this is, regrettably, demonstrably false.)

                      @mcc My favourite thing about ebooks is the adjustable font size. There are pros and cons to paper vs ebooks, but I love being able to have a consistent font across all books.

                          @mcc Paper books can be better for reading outside under a tree on a sunny day though.

                                      Sibling in suffering. I bought a bunch recently because support local bookshop, and I figure I should get back to books I own rather than licence.

                                      It is hard. I've read more eBook words in the meanwhile though I've started more paper ones

                                        @mcc This. I feel this.

                                        For me tho, I normally have a paperback that I get from a local Little Free Library AND a number of books on my phone/tablet/DataHaven (they sync).

                                        I like to read before I go to bed, but I want everything shut down and all the lights off before I jump in bed ... so, device.

                                        During the day at a cafe or on the bus or whatever I prefer paper. I can usually finish a paper novel in two or three days like this. Digital takes me longer because, well, sleepy time.
