Am I being fired?My boss is very literal. I had one of these recently and I opened the meeting with "Am I laid off?" and she seemed shocked.

@APBBlue Yeah, my ex-boss (and she's a great one) would schedule "Quick chats" for raises, stock options and stuff like that. I told her if she could at least add "Good news" to the invitation, and she did from then on. I think she genuinely didn't realise it was an anxiety-inducing thing otherwise.

@APBBlue I've started warning about doing that when I have introduction meetings with new managers. I can't think of a single one over my career I've not needed to have that conversion with
