Everyone seems to have no problem using them. Even my friends who are maoists use them! I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't.

@MLE_online Even if you don't care what they're doing to the housing market... the amount of bullshit fees they slap on means you might as well get a hotel room. And you don't have to clean it afterwards!

@MLE_online That seems odd to me. Granted, I'm not really in the market at the moment for AirBnB type services, but it's an issue I am acutely aware of and have booked with standard hotels / motels the last few times I've traveled.

@MLE_online I lived in SF 10+ years ago and yes, Airbnb totally wrecked the already insane market for resident renters. So no, I don’t use them.

I don't use them at all. The whole idea squicks me out, and they are super harmful. I have a path out of housing struggles now, but it has been so much harder than it had to be, all because of those bastards. -

@MLE_online Airbnb unhoused a friend of mine a few years back. Why would I give them my money? I go to a hotel like a normal person.

@MLE_online I don’t use AirBnB. I do occasionally rent an entire house for an extended period (month+) through other services but I try to do that as close to the owner as possible.
Not perfect but here we are existing in society imperfectly.

@MLE_online Our HOA has moved to make changes to the bylaws to make darn sure nobody can turn a place into one of those. We've had realtor queries in the past.

@MLE_online staying at someone else’s house gives me the willies (even if it’s exclusively used for airbnb or vrbo).
Besides, I enjoy hotels! And if there’s a problem, there’s always someone at a desk downstairs who can and will fix it.
I don’t really live in a place that short-term rentals makes any sense, so I haven’t seen the havoc it can wreak on the housing market first hand. -

@MLE_online @dyckron In many cities there are whole buildings that are essentially “ghost hotels”, where apartments have been taken from local renters. It’s obscene — AirBnB is a vampire.
