Was experimenting with https://github.com/allangood/rtlamr2mqtt, using an RTL SDR radio, to enable Home Assistant read my municipal water meter's radio transmission readings. I wanted the associated gear (MacBook Air running Ubuntu running docker) in the basement, with attached USB RTL dongle, (and associated antenna and lead), out of sight. The best place for it was in the wine rack for now, with the antenna in the rafters, just above my concrete foundation wall, for easy reception of Itron transmitter on the side of my house. My wife asked me what the MacBook Air was doing in the wine rack. This did pass did pass the Wife Acceptance Factor (WAF), which is the most important acceptance criterion in any home automation project. WAF overrides all technical considerations. Despite that, I'm running this on a Raspberry Pi3B+ for now (will save a bit of power (approx. 7w down to 3W) and will see how that goes. Some say an RTL SDR and a Rpi is not the best pairing due to electrical noise comming from the Pi. #homeassistant
