I love when an album cover is as artistic as the music it represents.

@harmonycorrupted I only know 3 on your list, so I've got some listening to do! Thank you

@smutgeist my pleasure, I admit to loving a chance to nerd out about avant-garde metalπ«£
I'm always trying to find bands that cross over genres but aren't like... soulless/overly nihilistic or nazi. Honestly still flabbergasted at how many nazis there are in this niche fucking genre

@harmonycorrupted gods, yeah, can't tell you how many times I've found a new metal group whose sound I dig, then heard a lyric that made me do a double-take and start searching to see if said group is on any lists of known white supremacist bands. Fuck them nazis π€¬

@smutgeist you've opened up Pandora's box cause I've just written down a whole ass list of bands and now I can't decide which ones to limit myself to

Now I wanna write an article about avant garde metal

@harmonycorrupted I notice Candiria isn't on your list. Considering your metal repertoire, I'd be surprised if you don't know them, but on the off chance you don't, I highly recommend a listen. Also, have you heard Between the Buried and Me's latest? Quite unlike the other entries in their discography. I felt they were channeling a little Mr. Bungle for this new one. Like it lots

-
@smutgeist they sound familiar, I think I listened to them a good 10 years ago and for some reason forgot to revisit them
In my defense, I was discovering so much new stuff back then that I lacked time to process everything properly
I'll definitely go take a proper listen now!
Which album(s) of theirs do you like the most?@harmonycorrupted The C.O.M.A. Imprint is their best, IMO, followed by 300 Percent Density. Their sound changed quite a bit on What Doesn't Kill You... and subsequent records. Candiria fans I know hated the change, but I like both sounds

οΈ(Interesting trivia: the wrecked van on the cover of What Doesn't Kill You... is the band's tour van after their close call with death while touring for The C.O.M.A. Imprint)

Which album(s) of theirs do you like the most?@harmonycorrupted ah, shit, I confess to having lost my way in this conversation. Not sure if you were asking about Candiria or Rivers of Nihil
The C.O.M.A. Imprint for the former, Where Owls Know My Name for the latter

@smutgeist 100%!!! Especially frustrating when they disguise themselves as "neo-pagan" or "satanist"
I was so fucking mad when I found out the entire French avant garde black metal scene is fash (adjacent)
