It’s funny in a way how many statements about the presidency are predicated upon the notion that the president is not a complete fucking moron.

Take the conventional market wisdom that the president does not control gas prices. Famously bandied about when #trump lied about how the cause of high gas prices during #Biden’s presidency were about decisions made by the president and everyone with an understanding of the situation chimed in to say that the president has no control over the cost of gas.

The president still does not control gas prices…but when a blithering fool of a president causes over 20% of the world’s crude oil supply to be cut off, that’s impactful to all global markets.

So while the president doesn’t have direct control over the price of gas and oil, an idiot in power can certainly find a way to make everything substantially more expensive for everyone by dropping a metaphorical turd in the metaphorical punch bowl.

So I guess kudos to him for finding a loophole in logic. I’m sure it won’t be his last time.
