There happens to be a fair bit of research into why people act that way. Apparently liberals and other progressive-minded individuals often tend to operate on associative reasoning rather than empirical evidence.

When they call someone a fascist for example, we may be inclined to take that assertion at face value and assume that they are calling us a literal Nazi or fascist as per the definition of the word. Instead, by using pattern-based heuristics, they associate harmful behavior exhibited by others as being fascist may call them such. Ultimately serving as a warning through mental short-hand that someone is dangerous or undesirable and should stay away from them.

I'm of the opinion that it rather backwards to regress back to having the same disposition as a wild animal. Ultimately, risk management is something that was built into us through evolution though have since outgrown the need for it in lieu of reason and understanding.

But I suppose when you're a perpetual victim, you'll be inclined to use whatever works best for you to protect yourself. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
