This is the first in a small series of posts about Sailfish OS, and how I use it as my daily driver. Feel free to dump questions here, and I'll see what I can cover!
I'll definitely mention #Whisperfish...
@rubdos thank you for those posts!

@christiannils My pleasure! Anything you'd like covered in the follow-ups?

@rubdos let me think about it!
I am soon a first-time user (from the J2's batch #1)... I enjoyed reading about the history of the OS in your post.
As a first-time user, I guess I am interested to read more about your impressions on using the OS daily.
Thanks again! -

@rubdos Nice article, looking for the next ones. Perhaps my biggest concern with Sailfish is that it isn't entirely OSS. I also wonder whether higher level languages work on it, like dotnet and kotlin, I really need to spin up the emulator some day.

Thanks again!@christiannils That's exactly why I'm writing this; I'm very glad to reach the right audience then!

@mihamarkic The OSS part I should've probably mentioned in the first post. There's a "finalization" post I'm kinda planning if I have enough content, it could definitely go in there.
I know @abranson has been playing with Kotlin, I haven't heard about .NET myself. I'm writing most of my stuff in Rust, and that includes Sailfish. Might be I have a post about that too.

@mihamarkic Regarding the emulator: my experience with it (which is 5+ years ago I believe) is that it's slow and doesn't cover the whole picture really well. If you can get your hands on a (cheap) device, it might honestly be a better bet.

@rubdos yeah, devices are always better, but emulators have advantages as well.

@Fynn Appreciate it, really!

@mihamarkic Not having to get a device is a certain advantage, and so is isolation. The emulator was really terrible in my experience, but my memory is also really vague. One issue is that it's a VirtualBox-based emulator (iirc), but most people nowadays take the Docker-based SDK, and they don't like to be installed on the same system for some reason. But it's been a while since I used this stuff.

@rubdos Great to see your post and IMHO Whisperfish is one of the most important apps for Sailfish.
I will have two Jolla phones, I really want to see the project and community thrive.
This comment is not a complaint but a highlight the importance of good quality native apps that can be trusted, like Whisperfish.
The weakest part of the Jolla/Sailfish experience is still be availability of key native apps and a trust in the app security. -

@rubdos how likely do you see yourself getting Whisperfish into the Jolla Store, I wonder?
Constantly thinking about the first user experience

@Setok Some day. The Jolla store should be a beacon of quality and usability, and I want to achieve that before getting it there. But it's been on my mind and on the code a lot lately!

@rubdos great to hear. I agree on what the Jolla store should be
