    @da_667 It always amazes me to hear US broadband prices. I pay €75/month for 2Gbps/200Mbps fibre and that's one of the most expensive ISPs in the country. And we're not a particularly cheap European country. Just... yowch.

      allegedly att fiber is preparing to install fiber in our area over the summer. and also supposedly, their plans are much better than the shit comcast is flinging. I'm paying 120.00 for about 900ish mbps down and like 40mbps up. allegedly 500mbps up/down is like 50 bucks. If that's the case. I'm soooooooooooooo done with comcast.

            @da_667 @NosirrahSec yeah they just gradually hike it and when you call to complain they tell you that what you really did was sign a 3 year contract and that theres an early termination fee if you want to change it

                @Viss @da_667 I miss having Sonic fiber at my old place, it was 1Gbps both ways for like $40/mo (currently paying though the nose for Comcast business where there’s no competition)

                    @da_667

                    I managed to replace Comcast with Ting fiber shortly before Ting stopped rolling out new fiber.

                    About 25 years ago, I managed to sign up for DSL service through Speakeasy.net before they lost their soul and disappeared into a blood-stained abyss of corporate mergers.

                    In both situations, I feel like the only reason why my internet still works is because someone forgot to turn it off.

                    Am I the reason why all the good ISPs die?

                      @Viss @da_667 I’m in the burbs in Sacramento now, so probably similar. Comcast is literally my only option for wired internet or phone (not that I care about the latter)

                        @scm @da_667 yeah i WAS using starlink, but it was kinda garbage, and plus.. ew. so i pulled that down and bought a peplink router, plunked a google fi sim into it, and now all that 'unlimited mobile data' that i hardly use anymore because i dont travel every month is the backup isp for when cox takes a shit. pfsense+ospf+wireguard for the links and its mostly stable 😄

                            @scm @da_667 oh i my case i didnt want to spend like a grand on the peplink, so the issue is the radio, not the reception, for me. maybe i upgrade in the future though, and shotgun the data, instead of doing primary/failover

                              @da_667 it is definitely this. ISP choice is a joke. Verizon sent me to collections after botching a cutover and failing to properly generate an accurate bill I could pay. Pick the best evil empire, if you even have a choice.
