And Jamie Oliver used to complain about kids being given turkey twizzlers. The US marines would love a turkey twizzler dinner right now.

@Nickiquote It looks like its literally been isolated and desaturated in the photo. Like something they would eat in that diner in Sapphire and Steel.

“Boots on the ground” is no longer possible because we ate all the boots.

@Nickiquote It looks like unheated, preformed Gyro meat. We bought a Gyro dinner kit from Aldi US and before the meat is heated in the pan, it looks like that. Once heated in the pan, it looks slightly more appetizing as it turns a caramel color and the edges curl up.

@ReggieHere I mean, maybe. If it has some tongue in it, that’s probably the best quality meat in there.

WTF? Our equipment was old as hell, but our hot food was top notch in the Canadian Army. The MRE/IMPs were hit or miss, but still one hell of a lot better than that.

There's no doubt about the carrots being carrots. If the lumpy patty on the right is a burger (meat), then the grey thing would likely be either a starch or another vegetable. My guess: a slice of eggplant, also known as aubergine.

However, of the lumpy thing is a starch, then the grey slice must be meat.
