@imp3tuz i am not sure if this is helpful but have you considered a tourette's diagnosis? there were also two factors that increased tics for me:
    (1) too-high dosage of my antidepressant escitalopram (30mg => 20mg seems to have fixed it)
    (2) degenerative thyroid issue (hashimoto's thyroiditis, addressed with a synthetic thyroid hormone)

the tics are not gone but are much less now

Hey y’all, does anyone know any tips for treating #adhd ticks? I get involuntary eye and head movements when I’m sitting still or driving and it’s starting to become a pain in my ass. They started becoming a lot more noticeable when I turned 21/22. Before it was mostly restless hands or foot tapping.

I haven’t had access to my meds cause fully out of stock in my country.
They do ease up when I am exercising, skating, or doing something with my hands and mind.

I HATE THIS and I wanna cry

      @imp3tuz

Unfortunately, the only trick I know, is to take medication.

Haven't had access to it for a long time (too long story) and people told me to meditate or exercise, which is OK in itself, helps a bit, but is hardly as effective as good old drugs.

I hope for you that supplies start to run again, soon.

@hipsterelectron i appreciate you responding, and yeah it really might be Tourette’s but I have no way of telling. It’s also only become very noticeable as of late

@imp3tuz Dunno if this is feasible or helpful, but I'm basically never doing nothing with both hands and mind

Writing code or other brain tasks: Listening to up tempo, strong beat music (eg EDM), which seems to engage my body

Washing dishes or other physical tasks: Listening to podcasts

When I have no choice (eg long, in-persin meeting)bI do a lot of fidgeting, doodling, etc

@imp3tuz i was getting pretty worried about the potential for some degenerative issue bc my symptoms were getting worse and i'm pretty confident hashimoto's covers what i was experiencing. it was happening slowly—it seems like yours is happening more quickly which (not to scare you but) is something i would consider seeing a doctor about more rapidly

@imp3tuz i was able to rule out e.g. a brain tumor because it was happening slowly but since yours seems to be occurring more rapidly that seems like neurologist time imo. i know healthcare is terrible if you need a referral etc i would go to your primary care doctor and specifically mention tics and the rapidity of progression. especially if it occurs while driving that's something a doctor should take seriously

please don't let me scare you but if you can i would recommend medical consultation asap

@hipsterelectron Nono you’re right. I’ve been delaying this for some time and my partner has been saying a should get it checked out. Fingers crossed I can find a good provider here.

@imp3tuz Do you use fidget toys? Not just the ones that are marketed as such, even something like a Rubik's cube, spiral/coil hair tie, squishy stress ball, etc that you can use with one hand.

Depending how sure you feel in driving, you can hang something with a sensory surface (like something rough or furry) from one of the levers to reach out and touch, or use the steering wheel (mine has a groove I run my fingers over sometimes).

also agree w/getting specialist process started just in case
