went on another walk with my IR camera from my previous thread. Even managed to catch a few rays of sunlight in between the otherwise grey week.

It continuous to be a lot of fun and I slowly get the hang of focusing correctly! There are some image artifacts and out-of-focus regions at times, but that is okay with this 2011 camera.. 😄

The resulting photos also just keep blowing my mind, this is sooo good! Also there are some interesting observations, the concrete in the third photo does not reflect much, if any IR, while the foliage does. This is also something you can feel in the summer, while streets are incredibly hot, trees and grass usually are pretty chill as they do not absorb a lot of IR!

@Earl almost! The wavelengths they absorb are not within the IR range, they reflect IR, that’s why they are cooler. They rather reflect the IR instead of absorbing it and heating up.

@janamarie @Earl They are also actively cooled by transpiration - the photosynthesis process doesn't work if they get too hot.

and there are more tricks we can do with a full spectrum camera!! This photo of a flower contains UV as well, you can clearly see how the flower is much more vibrant and glowy than the other foliage. This is to attract bees and other insects that can also see UV light! So cool!

I ordered a UV filter to just take UV images, hope that that will reveal another vibrant, unknown to me world

@janamarie@mystical.garden Could you please try to take a photo of a pigeon in UV? Pigeons can see UV light and I'm just really curious how they appear to each other.

@janamarie what in aerochrome! It never occurred to me you could "fake" it with a digital sensor, fascinating! I must do some research 😯

@ringlov it involves swapping the red and blue channels, meaning it actually is quite similar to how aerochrome actually got its false colouring and IR presentation. I can recommend looking into digital IR photography, it’s a lot of fun and can be quite technical if that’s something of interest

also, hi, it's me, IR selfies look weird. Not bad, just... weird.. 😄

as you can see by the background plants, I hue shifted this to be a bit more natural. If you have seen Dune 2, you might recognize this 'look'. I believe they used an IR modified camera there as well to film the fight scenes on Giedi Prime of the Harkonnen, albeit with a different cutoff filter

@janamarie Thanks for sharing, I think this may be the first time I have seen an IR portrait 🙂. Seeing IR photography seems rare enough never mind portraits. Your right that it looks a bit weird but it also seems like it could be a lot of fun to shoot.
I have been interested in IR and UV for a while... It's so tempting to convert a camera and give it a go 🤔

                      Edit: Improved a phrasing
