Meanwhile, Kentucky is running for worst state in the US...again.

    #CW: outdated language / slur

    """
The ADA sets out a list of “disorders” that are not protected by law, including “gender identity disorders”. Other listed disorders include transexualism, pedophilia, kleptomania, compulsive gambling and voyeurism, amongst others.¹
    ...
The amendment will also require doctors licensed in Kentucky to “diagnose the disorders [excluded from the ADA] based on the disorder definitions in the DSM III”.²
    """

¹ This list shows exactly where they think trans folx sit.

² Great, so they're using the horribly outdated version from 1980—yes, 19-fucking-80! (as opposed to the horribly outdated DSM IV from 2013)

@alice @theleftistlawyer IIUC, PinkNews has started using AI to replace their journalistic staff; it looks like the story is sourced from the Lexington Herald-Leader, which has a bit more detail (though even more by way of antiquated language and outright slurs).

@alice @theleftistlawyer OTOH it's a little weird that the pedo-klepto party is the one pushing this shit...

@earthshine yeah, if you remove the trans stuff and add "delusions of white male persecution" it's basically a list of the Republican party's greatest hits.

@ireneista @alice @theleftistlawyer As reported by Harriet Williamson on X (verified via xcancel), reposted via Parker Molloy, it sounds like PinkNews has stated that they aim to become a "reporter-free newsroom."

@ireneista @alice @theleftistlawyer Yeah, I didn't want to rely on that personally, given i don't know queerAF's reputation. I figured Molloy is a bit less likely than average to share or endorse panic, and took her sharing Williamson's post (or a screenshot thereof that I then manually verified) as an endorsement of the likely veracity?

@ireneista Agreed, which is part of why I'm being as careful to caveat my own understanding here. That said, I think there's enough open question that I'm at the point of "always click through the story to see if it's actually what PinkNews says it is," which is a healthy practice even absent specific distrust.

@gloatgoat that's better news, but that senator should be removed for proposing it (and then trying to sneak it in again) anyway—he's obviously unfit to be a senator by his own criteria (see DSM III: 319.0(x))¹.

¹ do yourself a favor and don't look that up; it's horrible and horribly outdated—like the senator.
