Note: Don’t believe exaggeration. This very obviously is not the actual Bernina line, as there is no overhead electrification.

@tml It could be the Furka Pass. According to Wikipedia, the RhB 12 now belongs to the DFB (Dampfbahn-Furka-Bergstrecke).

@markusr @tml Yeah, there really aren't many non-electrified railways in Switzerland. The old Furka pass line & the Brienzer Rothorn (dead end) come to mind, but with this amount of snow & within RhB's reach I can't see any other option than Furka.

(for the record i retooted it because it was a cute steam train and the lies were in french so i didn't bother reading them)

@tml DFB I think, so you are right, nowhere near the Bernina line. According to the DFB website they own the R12 snowblower seen in the video https://www.dfb.ch/en/stories/dfb-inbetriebnahme-schneeschleuder

@cycling_on_rails looking at their ridiculously detailed page on snow clearance it seems like even then it is only used on special occasions https://www.dfb.ch/de/stories/schneeraeumung

@bovine3dom @cycling_on_rails @markusr I can imagine some American (sorry, but they are so easy to poke fun at) spreading this video with the description "this is how the Swiss maintain their railway network in winter", as if it was a regular thing all around the country.

@tml the more i look into it the more annoying it gets - https://www.dfb.ch/en/stories/dfb-inbetriebnahme-schneeschleuder

volunteer railway rescues an incredible machine that had been derelict for 50 years, they spend _18 YEARS_ refurbishing it and finally get it into a condition where it can be used for short periods on their railway

and it goes viral with someone claiming it is how some other railway has always been maintaining their tracks 🙃

the reality is much more impressive!

@bovine3dom @tml @cycling_on_rails I'm wondering if fake news is a reason to report people in the Fediverse. On the other hand, I don't want to burden mods unnecessarily with stuff like that.

@markusr i "unfollow boosts" when i see retooted rubbish and it makes my feeds a lot better. i suspect most instances won't have rules against spreading misinformation but maybe some will
