First and foremost is the threat of military conquest.
Second, is the kidnapping of Canadians by ICE, being held for months without charge.
Third, the United States is fomenting sedition in the province of Alberta.
Fourth is the illegal trade war and tariffs.
There are certainly other reasons such as the American leadership is, or are, protecting pedos, and how the United States is threatening to annex Canada's neighbour, Greenland, and their invasion of Venezuela, and so on.
The tariffs are the smallest part and not even the whole story of that part.

@thedoh And let’s be clear… it’s not because tariffs make things more expensive for Canadians specifically. They just don’t.
Agree on 1 and 2 and 3.

Please avoid coming here at all costs, it's not safe for anyone, not even us, unless you are white and your descendants came over on the Mayflower.

@thedoh I know some people who hold dual US/Canadian citizenship. Their residence is in the US.
They fear visiting Canada. Why? Not because of Canada. Rather, they fear that the US could decide that because they are Canadian that the US could ignore their US citizenship (and residence) and block their return home.
In other words, they have concerned that should they ever leave the US, particularly to another country in which they hold citizenship, that they may have crossed a ratcheting barrier and might not be able to return home.

I echo this message. You could remove the tariffs tomorrow and that wouldn’t change a thing for me. They would have to have a regime change, send all the fascists to The Hague to face justice, dismantle ice, resign all the environmental and other agreements they have abandoned, invest heavily in a free education where reading is encouraged and taught, forbidden corporations and billionaires from buying politicians and elections…
The list of restorative actions is very long

@thedoh Many people don’t get there are values that transcend the merely economic.

@thedoh It's funny how the American news media spins low Canadian travel numbers as some sort of economic protest. No dude we just don't want to end up in a concentration camp.

@karlauerbach @thedoh And it's *impossible to know* what may or may not happen. Some people get shafted, some don't. It used to be that you could reasonably kid yourself into thinking "I've done nothing wrong so I have nothing to fear," but not even that is believable anymore. And we can't be sure anything *even worse* won't start occurring out of the blue to everyday people.
It's going to be a *very* long time before anyone can expect consistent safety again when dealing with the U.S.

@karlauerbach I have dual citizenship and live in Canada (I left during Bush 2) and even I won't go back to visit. Citizenship is meant to guarantee entry, but I've been hassled by
border guards before, many years ago, and have no desire to repeat that experience and/or risk being sent to a concentration camp.I advise everybody not to visit the US. It's sad that some Canadians who reside in the US with US citizenship are fearful to leave because of re-entry concerns. In theory it shouldn't happen because we have to travel with our passport of the destination country: If I go to the US, I need to use my US passport. When I come home to Canada, I need to use my Canadian passport. But also in theory there is supposed to be due process, so, there you go.
