Why do leftists drive? Don't they know every time they get behind the wheel, they risk others' lives? If they cared, they'd stop driving!

No, I don't believe this, but this has the vibe to me as complaining about "leftists" not masking. You know where I stand on COVID, and you know I mask! But in a world with no public health, media, medical, or political attention on COVID risks, I think it's unfair to hold people of one political bent more accountable to protect others.

Conservatives have no expectations for the values and behaviors of other conservatives, but expect liberals to walk on water.

Meanwhile, some liberals do EXACTLY the same—no expectations of conservatives, but expecting other liberals to be perfect in every way.

We live in a world where the right is killing public health, threatening vaccines, and passing laws against masking. Stop blaming leftists for not being saints and focus on the devils harming public health.

@augieray It is the sense of betrayal and abandonment from supposed allies who have revealed themselves to be performative and hypocritical. Leftist orgs that purport to care about big issues, especially regarding healthcare and workers rights, but refuse to mask or consider air quality are discriminating against bodies that need to be at the organizing table and part of the solutions.

(Biden’s administration is the one that started yanking away the tools we supposedly had)

@augieray The whole “vote blue no matter who” was an exercise in “shut up and fall in line with the liberals that big donors bought because that’s the only way to fight the right” and it failed. We somehow got more and farther right-wing everywhere. So, yeah, we do need to push supposed leftists on masks and virus mitigation and authentic community care and genuine inclusion. We need to stop giving people a pass just because they’re wearing the team colours.

@thatkatharine I get the frustration, but in the end, when you look at world and what's happening, complaining about leftists feels like it's exactly the kind of division that conservatives and our foes want. We have much bigger fish to fry.

@augieray Who do you envision attending that fish fry? Without masks at organizing meetings, protests, and in-person action, people with health issues cannot safely attend. Democrats have been active in pushing for mask bans. You’re expecting the most vulnerable to keep showing up and pardoning people who are not showing up for them in the most basic way (wearing an accessory to prevent virus spread).

@augieray Funny thing is that I'm a life-long non-motorist and that's one of the reasons.

And also a life-long left-leaner (though not to extremes).

Which just goes to show that association doesn't imply causation.
