Note to all: do not just leave your TV off - that just results in him getting a larger share of tv watchers. Leave it on, but tuned to a channel that definitely won't have any coverage of SOTU; HGTV, Food Network, etc. That way, SOTU has a reduced percentage of watchers.

@BunRab I don't think it works that way; there is no actual monitoring of which channel an individual TV is showing. Instead, there are polls of viewership conducted by polling companies with selected representative groups.
