Spoiler for an upcoming piece. There's a myth out there that young people are "demanding" large homes. While the stock of 4-bedroom+ homes has risen, they're being bought by Gen X and Boomers. Ownership rates for people under 40 are plummeting across types.

@mikepmoffatt And what about bathrooms? When we were looking at places a number of years back, the realtor absolutely refused to believe that we were serious when we said we could live with only one. Almost every place we looked at had at least as many bathrooms as bedrooms. We're young Gen X and found this absurd and wasteful.

@brian_gettler We're 3 people in this house. 2 bathroom minimum was the primary requirement. Bathroom friction is real, especially once anyone develops IBS or other shitty problems.

@mayintoronto We ended up buying a place with 2 bathrooms for 4 of us. It does make life easier. I imagine this would be even more important if everyone in the house was an adult. Still, massive bathroom inflation is something I really don't get. Roughly a third of the places we visited had more bathrooms than bedrooms. I constantly heard my mom's voice in my head - "who's going to clean all these toilets??"

@brian_gettler @mikepmoffatt I think it's the way they do room inflation. Bathrooms add to the total room count without adding bedrooms or places where humans actually want to be.
