@ascentale @bikenite A8. I “finished” rebuilding my old bike, so a bike photo this week. I’m mostly happy with the results, I need a procure a new stem to bring the handlebars up and back a little. The shifting is not quite right, so I need to figure that out. And short pull bar shifters with long pull brakes, so kinda mushy braking, so I still need to figure that out. I knew this would be an issue, but the Microshift Sword brakes claim to have a 1.5 pull ratio, so I was hoping it would be better. Oh and the steering is a little twitchy, which I think will be better with the handle bars higher and closer. #BikeNite

@rand was that the stem from the stock riser / flat handlebar? You might get more pull with the levers slightly farther up the curve, if the extra reach from the drops is tolerable. There is also the Problem Solvers pulley thing that goes on the caliper and doubles the cable pull problemsolversbike.com/products/travel-agent

@rand @ascentale @bikenite Wouldn't moving the bars in that direction make the steering more twitchy?

@ascentale @bikenite A8 #BikeNite Here's a snap of some of our motley crew, shortly before the bloke on the left came off and broke his collarbone. Devine retribution for riding a 'cheeky' route we shouldn't have been on, perhaps? 🤫️

@FourT4 @ascentale @bikenite My first thought too, Jon!

@ascentale @bikenite A8. #bikenite Ended last week at our final youth xc #mtb race of the season in Tehachapi, CA. Held on a hill (foreground) owned by the cement plant in the distance. A local organization has done a great job building trails and maintaining the race course. I could watch the race and do some train watching at the same time. The second photo is from a bike practice this week. One of our varsity riders carried two bikes in her Mitsubishi 3000. One on the roof using one of those suction cup racks. Another inside the hatch. She is not a big person and it was a heavier bike so she had to climb in to get it out. Now in NJ visiting my elderly father. Side trip to Great Falls in Paterson, which somehow I had never visited when growing up in the state. They harnessed the falls for industrial power. Also never realized the area is known as Little Lima with a big Peruvian population. Walked to a yummy Peruvian lunch.

@ascentale @bikenite A8 the valleys and hills of Calderfornia seen from the Rochdale canal and cobbles betwixt Littleborough and Manchester…
Too much pressure in my tyres so I am feeling it today (left my rear tyre over-pumped overnight to seat the bead and forgot to let some air out before I set off).

@enobacon The stem is from my other bike, which was the wrong size (was too long and on that bike it was angled down), but I figured it was a good starting point.
I think I can tighten up the brakes a little bit, but the return springs are not working well, I don't really understand why, the brakes are only about 5 years old. One arm in particular just has almost no tension. I'll also look into moving the bars up some. I have big enough hands, so reach is not a problem. Unfortunately problem solvers doesn't sell their pulley thing anymore, so I need to find some pre-owned ones (I did run across a single one once). #BikeNite

@LovesTha @ascentale @bikenite Idk, but my often wrong intuition thinks that if your hands are closer to the perpendicular of the steering tube that it would be less. But I suppose I'll find out (the old flat bars were a but closer). #BikeNite

@rand assuming the pivots aren't binding, are the brake springs adjustable? Most have an arc 3 holes that the spring end can be clocked to before mounting, plus the small screw for finer tuning.

@enobacon They are adjustable, with a screw to adjust spring tension and the three holes on the post. Originally I had them all on the middle hole, but the return was not a much as I wanted so I moved them to the top hole (greatest tension), but then one of the arms apparently "failed" it still works, but a lot less tension, for that brake, I have the failed arm in the high tension hole and the working arm in the medium hole. Balances better (the screw on the failed arm does not change the tension). I don't see a way to disassemble the arm to see what is going on inside (other than destroying it).
They are Promax P-1 108mm arms. the 85mm arms I think would be just a few mm to short and the brake cable would rub on the tire. #BikeNite

@rand I haven't seen that happen but it sounds disengaged or one turn unwound in that part. Possible to loosen the adjuster screw and twist the torque pin around until it has tension? Or is the long end of the spring just slipped off the nub where it pushes against the arm?

@ascentale @bikenite A8. I couldn't upload that much from #Spezi2026 when I was still on the move. So now I get to choose one to post in answer to the weekly photo cue.
Spezi is the best cycle show I've been to, besting even the Recumbent Cycle Con I attended 10 or so years ago. Great opportunities for disabled cyclists, but also plenty of abled cyclists enjoying the spectrum of what's available in human-powered and e-assist vehicles.

@ascentale @bikenite A8. My spouse finished a master’s degree this year & graduation was today, so we biked to the ceremony in style this morning. #BikeNite

@A_denie @ascentale @bikenite Be wary of power washing bottom bracket and other sensitive parts.
