The 1965 #VotingRightsAct, the #centerpiece legislation of the #CivilRights Movement, succeeded in opening the ballot box to #Black Americans & reducing persistent racial #discrimination in voting. Nearly 70 of the 435 congressional districts are protected by #Section2, #ElectionLaw expert Nicholas Stephanopoulos has estimated.
