@anon_opin I think they are reasonably expecting you will own an AVR if you need eight inputs.

@anon_opin This is probably the most Mastodon reply imaginable to this but the reason they probably don't is the licensing fees associated with HDMI. Even then I'd want one of the expanded ports to be DisplayPort.
@SHODAN @anon_opin Yes! DisplayPort. I have to convert DisplayPort to HDMI from my PC to clone to my TV.

@kDelta @anon_opin In my case: sound bar, Roku, blu-ray player, Switch. (Which is actually quite conservative for me...)
For the latter two, we had to get a HDMI switcher. -

For the latter two, we had to get a HDMI switcher.@lunarloony @anon_opin Ahh makes sense. My Apple TV connects via my soundbar. I didn’t count it but I do have a Raspberry Pi connected too, but it’s rarely used with display required and I have other places I’d put it if I really needed it.

@anon_opin @drajt that uses to be the case, 2-3 works for me now tbh and if the TV did chromecast properly I'd really only need one for xbox and an audio out

Apparently some TVs now come with 4 HDMI sockets, but it's very recent.

@drajt yeah I used to have TV boxes but now mostly watch streaming services. I only use chromecast for the ones the TV supports badly, and xbox does blueray so really only need 2. I have the AVR on the 3rd but it doesn't do 4k so no good for xbox, but it does pick up TV remote volume commands down the hdmi so 3 does me fine. If digital audio out did volume and power for the avr amp then 2 would be enough

@sldrant Freesat is free and allows us UK TV without paying anything, which is useful. The French IPTV is pretty useless, but does provide catch up services locally.
Streaming costs money and without VPN it's harder to get English language content, as stuff in France is aggressively dubbed rather than subtitled.
Finally I don't watch much TV, so I tend to download free-to-air content and then watch when I want.
I'll probably scrap the French IPTV as it's useless...

@sldrant Freesat makes sense for us on the north coast of France, as we can watch any live TV without a VPN. Until a few months ago we only had 7Mbit ADSL, so streaming anything was a joke. Now we have 1Gbps fibre, streaming is viable.
We now have about 400 channels of rubbish (free). I mostly record or download what I want to watch, and almost never watch linear TV.
I run my own VPN, so I can stream UK plus French TV, but only the free to air content.
