At least 160,000 people to be removed from NDIS as Labor unveils "unavoidable and urgent" cuts

"At least 160,000 people are expected to be removed from the National Disability Insurance Scheme by 2030, as the Albanese government looks to claw back savings by changing who can access the scheme.
The health minister, Mark Butler, also announced on Wednesday the $50bn scheme’s growth rate will be brought down to just 2% every year until 2030 in an effort to curb annual plan inflation and produce billions in savings.
The government will dramatically increase the categories of service providers required to register with the federal government, adding more higher risk activities, including personal care, daily living supports, and supports provided in closed settings."
- So while the responsibilities of the care providers are increased, their pay goes down.
"There are about 760,000 people on the scheme at the moment, meaning at least 160,000 will no longer be able to access the NDIS within four years.
“These are hard decisions – but they’re unavoidable and urgent,” Butler said."
- But apparently new gas projects and perks for the fossil fuel industry are 'Easy decisions' for Labor.. Well done Labor, good job, as usual..

But hey, an Aged Care home in Rooty Hill *might* get one brand new shower installed out of it, and a photo-op session with an MP smiling in front of it for the local papers... Meanwhile ongoing tax cuts equaling hundreds of billions to the fossil fuel industries by 2030..

@CanvasesByPeter Counter argument... let's take all the hundreds of millions in fossil fool subsidies we provide to ALREADY HIGHLY PROFITABLE COMPANIES and use that to keep funding people who need our help.
Wouldn't that be an amazing Australian value to have???

@Bot4Sale I think the only way Labor would do that is if they could somehow line their own pockets at the same time, but yes, agree, it's what the Australian government _SHOULD_ be doing, not gutting funds to the vulnerable.

@Bot4Sale ..and it's one thing for the government to come out and say "We're going to investigate irregularities in some NDIS requests and prosecute if we find evidence of fraud" (*what they SHOULD have said), but it's quite another to set an arbitrary number of hundreds of thousands of people they're going to randomly cut off..
