Scientists have found an alarming environmental impact of vast data centers | CNN Mar 30, 2026

The vast data centers that power artificial intelligence guzzle huge amounts of energy but they also have another alarming impact, according to new research. They are creating “heat islands,” warming the land around them by up to 16 degrees Fahrenheit, and making life hotter for more than 340 million people.

The vast data centers that power artificial intelligence are so energy hungry that they’re heating up their surroundings, according to new research. It’s an alarming finding given the number of data centers is predicted to explode over the next few years.

@PeterRu So much fun in Arizona! Looking forward to the official Summer which is supposed to start in May but now has appeared to start in March. We have already had over 100° days so the AC is on part of each day. I wonder how people 30 miles east on the other side of Phoenix will do with the new data centers over there.

But those people are wondering how we on the West side are doing with the gigantic new ICE concentration camp being readied to open in a neighboring suburb 15 Mike away. Yay for Capitalists and Fascists Making America Great Again.
