On the rails again… #Interrail #CrossBorderRail
Today I am taking the now-familiar route home to Barcelona.
I am hoping that the combination of the current speed restrictions and the winds that battered the city last night won’t affect my AVE too much.
This morning’s TER is pretty full. There were only a couple of seats left in first class (yes, a TER with a first class) and I had to ask someone to move their backpack in order to grab a seat.
I was a little surprised to find the billboards in Genève station quoting scriptures at me, though

And it was none of those issues that has delayed my train to Barcelona. Apparently it’s cable theft in France that has started the delay countdown with “around 60m of delay”. Let’s see how long that actually takes…

@af That’s a translation issue from Spanish. +/- is shorthand for “más o menos” and would be more accurately translated as “more or less”

That’s a new one, we are stopped 1380m from the end of the Cret d’Eau tunnel to France. I know this because I can see the emergency exit signs telling me to walk towards France in the case of an emergency…

And that didn’t last long. SNCF gares is showing the incoming train’s arrival to Lyon at +1:40, and Renfe itself just sent another notification giving me a +2:00 delay…

I note that the @chuuchuu app is not showing this delay, btw.
I realise that #CrossBorderRail traffic data is difficult to get right, but I believe both Adif and SNCF Gares have apis with the relevant data in each country for this train…

I am generally impressed with your app, there’s a few things I would want to polish on the UI, especially with the live activity, but I’m now using it alongside my usual app…

Made it to Lyon, part two, and now I have a dilemma.
The experienced traveller in me tells me that there is no way in hell this train is going to leave earlier than 2 hours after the scheduled departure time of 14:35. Which means I have time to kill, I can leave my bag in the facility, and head over to my favourite café in Fouvières to wait this out.
On the other hand, I also know how terrible the information systems are for this train. SNCF Gares is still showing that departure is on time, whilst simultaneously showing me that arrival of the incoming train that will turn into this one is at +1:40. I know Renfe only has two trains in France today, and the other one is several hundred km south, on the Marseilles run.
So I’m unsure about effectively going half an hour away from the station, as that gives me no room to manoeuvre if the timing suddenly changes for the better…

And I just received an email from Renfe cutting the delay down to 90 mins. On the one hand, positive news, but on the other hand, more or less confirms my anxiety not to go to Fourvière.
So I’ll explore lunch options near the station then, there’s a whole new mall area an’all
