I need a favor. A good friend of mine got laid off. She's in NYC on a H1B, and being trans means she's not very keen to return to her home country!
She's an amazing software engineer, with experience leading teams, working with stakeholders, and is happy to come in to existing code bases to improve things.
She's primarily looking for full stack and is very comfortable with TS, JS, Python and Rust, but is happy to adapt.

Oh, and if your company is scared of the visa sponsorship _transfer_ process, she wants me to point out that it is a relatively easy process but to most people it's an unknown they don't wanna take a risk on.
The chance of rejection is very low. You hire an immigration lawyer, provide some documents and they handle the rest. The lawyer costs a bit of money, but the process is painless, and that cost is low compared to getting an amazing new software developer!

@thezoq2 She probably knows this, but just in case she doesn't. Canada has a program for US H1B holders, might be worth looking into.

@alter_kaker Thanks, I'll let her know just in case

@alter_kaker She didn't know about that, but found this https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/work-canada/special-instructions/h1b.html which appears to be closed. Is that what you're referring to or is it another new system?

@thezoq2 I was looking a lot more recently than 2023. When I get a chance I'll try to look again

@thezoq2 My employer, MasterCard, has a few engineering positions open in the New York area that might be worth checking out. I don't know about all of the divisions, but the one I work in (Open Banking) has great benefits -- lots of PTO, bonuses, healthcare, 401k. I've been there 6 years and love it! careers.mastercard.com/us/en/s…
Good luck to your friend -- it's rough out there

I'm probably in the wrong place and no direct use but @markwyner gets boosted to me a lot, offering to check sites/CVs and might have a finger on the pulse? -
