    In an attempt to escape the miserable real world, I am going down the rabbit hole of learning how to crack #C64 games currently. Prepare for some n00b warez soon (if I can figure it out, that is). Definitely a fun way of wasting time so far. #ObsoleteSkills

      @janbeta Oh! I used to do something like this with a friend in the 80s. Looking for the number of lives, and if you saw it decreasing when you died, trying to set it to FF to get 256 lives… Good times! 😄

        @janbeta I'd love to do something similar by making tape-to-disc "installers" for the amstrad

          @janbeta
          I really want to learn this 😄

          I usually crack ZX Spectrum games, (and sometimes Amstrad CPC) to make compressed versions that fit better in tapes (actual tapes), load faster, have bugfixes (such as making them compatible with Spectrums without floating bus), add fancier loading screens... On the CPC, fitting those games that load in 2KB blocks into a compressed single block saves a huge amount of time!

          It will be good to learn on the #C64

            @FromTheFourthPlanet @janbeta I always liked the idea of "one-filers" like I ended up with a lot of when I had an Atari ST

              @FromTheFourthPlanet Nice! I’ve been meaning to learn it on the C64 since I had one. But I’m very much a beginner when it comes to 6502 Assembler, even. Still a long way to go for me. At least now we have emulators and such which should make things faster and easier when it comes to manipulating memory and de/re-crunching things. 😄
