Dune sicko on main kind of day

@checkervest i still have yet to read the books so i am very excited to learn it's that faithful, wow :0 i like an adaptation that reimagines/reworks stuff but an adaptation that just loves the source material so much is sooooooo good
@raspberry there is definitely some reworking here with some characters (which works really well in my opinion!) but Denis has said that he’s been obsessed with this book since he was 15 and spent years thinking about how he’d do it and made two movies with the express purpose of learning how to make Dune and I think he did an incredible job, the love shines through at every moment

Thinking about the portrait and the bull

It is absolutely the funniest thing imaginable that Frank Herbert wrote a book about how you should never trust charismatic messianic leaders and how people like Paul are the bad guys and the hero’s journey is bullshit and he got so incensed when everyone said “wow! Paul!! What a great hero!!” that he immediately wrote a second book calling them all dumbasses

@checkervest it's incredible. like Herbert name drops Hitler in the second book and people were STILL fawning over Paul

@balrogboogie one of my favorite critiques of the second movie was how Paul had a heel turn “out of nowhere,” I saw a bunch where they were mad that Denis “ruined” the character by making him a bad guy, as if the seeds of that weren’t established in the first one

@checkervest @balrogboogie I feel like a lot of cinema goers will be in for a shock in Messiah. Either that, or by sheer force of will they'll miss the point completely. Villeneuve is said to love the books so I'm reasonably confident he'll do a fair adaptation.

@carithlee @checkervest Book 3: Would you still think I'm bad if I was a worm?

@checkervest Still feels like that will very much be what the general audience will take away from the movies. But fingers crossed!

@checkervest man I never finished the first book because it was too much about how special Paul is… (didn’t get very far in) maybe I should give it another shot

Dune sicko who read the book at least once a year since I was 11 or 12, watching the gom jabbar scene:

@checkervest I have tried reading the first book at least three times and failed at each of them.
-
@carithlee oh this is so good
@checkervest @carithlee Wait until they see Paul’s son!
-
