@Madmonkey @DocPop@loops.video I was thinking this video (posted today) would show up. https://loops.video/v/dNEyFI4AHA

I can see @DocPop@loops.video profile on the fediverse, but i don’t see my newest videos. I’m guessing it’s still working in full federation.

@docpop @DocPop@loops.video I can follow your account from clicking the link you provided, but your profile is empty. My account seems to be in the same situation tho I can’t search for my account at all. @box464@loops.video

Edit: Clicking this link to my account brings it up, and even shows some videos. But search doesn’t work.

Normally, in the Fediverse, you only see content after you follow someone, i.e., content that is created after you follow them.

@the_rebel Yes, but normally a web finger lookup would discover my account and show it in search results. It wasn’t here.

Interestingly, now that I clicked on my account name in the post above, it’s showing up in search results.

@box464@mastodon.social At least in my own account and my daughter's account, I didn't see anything, and only after following could I see all the new posts. 🤔

                Oh, we use
#Calckey and #Sharkey for the Fediverse. Is that related to your Mastodon?

@the_rebel If someone connected to your instance has interacted with that profile (follow, boost, etc) then it’ll show up. I find it surprising tho that Mastodon.social doesn’t show their profile and data, they consume all. So maybe it is something Mastodon specific.

@mntyfrsh thanks for sharing that. I checked last night and it was empty, but now I see two posts from 2024. Oddly, I see different vids than what you see.

@the_rebel @box464 @DocPop@loops.video @box464@loops.video yeah this certainly seems related to having no followers from Masto. It showed zero posts yesterday, today I see three. Oddly, the three I see are different than the ones other people see when viewing my Loops profile via Mastodon.
I think it's slowly propagating older content now that someone followed it from Mastodon.social.

follow up post: Yesterday I couldn't view any of my @DocPop@loops.video posts via Mastodon, and couldn't find my Loops account via Masto search.

I shared a link to my Loops account on Mastodon, which I was able to click on and follow outside of Loops.

Now, a few of my old videos are starting to appear, as well as my most recent vido post (shared this morning). So federation is there, but might not begin until that account gets follows from outside of Loops.

                                No, that's not strange.
No instance ever knows exactly all the instances that my instance knows. It follows that the visibility of posts from these instances also varies.

This also applies to the number of followers displayed.

Everything normalizes after following. This is because all the information is then exchanged between each other.
This is a special feature of the protocol, which on the one hand prevents unnecessary data from passing through the network and on the other hand reduces traffic, which also benefits the instances. Otherwise, the network would virtually be paralyzed if all data from all users were exchanged between all instances.

We are now at around 42,000+ instances.
If all data were to be exchanged between all these instances, it would be a monstrous amount.
On my current main account alone, I have around 120,000 posts, an estimated 30% of which contain images.
Synchronizing all of this with the 42,000 instances would cause any server to crash.
