Does anyone else have songs from artists who perhaps never made it beyond a handful of fans? I have some songs I treasure, got the CDs from the musicians or friends over 10yrs ago, but they've dropped out of the radar and I can't find them anywhere. Just their voice haunting my speakers like a sweet ghost. There's also an mp3 I got off a yahoo group, around 2005. I like the song, but it has no artist name, no title, just a voice and a guitar, perhaps home recorded.

@dilmandila I love these types of artist, such a fleeting bit of history of an other person's soul you crossed paths with at some time in the past. It's a real treat to have experienced it and to remember back to it.
I've got CDs and mp3s of long-gone local artists who's lives moved on away from their music too, it's good to keep their artistic spirit alive from time to time. Even some songs stuck in my head I'd loved live that never got recorded. It's profoundly beautiful stuff -

@dilmandila So many little local bands that only released a handful of songs and then broke up/moved on/otherwise vanished. It's kind of tragic because I want everyone to know some of these songs by heart, they mean so much to me.

@dilmandila yes, I was very involved in a local community of musicians about 20 years ago, and have a lot of demo CDs and files. Some of these demos had a circulation of hundreds, some only single figures. Some are really good. I've lost touch with nearly all of the people involved, but still hear the music occasionally.

@dilmandila I have several CDs from such artists, but the most interesting is an old LP from a Baltimore radio station with tracks from several local bands, none of whom I was able to find anything about.

@dilmandila A little bit sad, honestly.

@dilmandila Definitely. I know a very talented singer-songwriter in the Washington DC area who has released 3 CDs and has a devoted but very small following. Her last CD was probably 9 years ago and it's still one of my favorites.

I have found random gems of music through these obscure artists that never gained any traction for whatever reason. Most music is born from spontaneity in the moment and only it's memory remains.

@dilmandila One of my favourite Christmas songs was one I found while compiling a Christmas Music for the Apocalypse blog series: 'A Post-Apocalyptic Christmas' by Art Elliot.
I think it's genuinely beautiful, but it still only has 2.5k views on YouTube: https://youtu.be/JlJ8OTxALv4?si=4InrDNmV9Txj4Mm4

@dilmandila
There was this Latvian (I think) folk-rock-electro artist from the late 90s, I can't remember her name or the album name. Just that it had a portrait of her in front of a wall covered in climbing vines. She was really ahead of her time. -

@dilmandila My favourite such is a San Francisco duo called M-1 Alternative. Three perfect albums between ‘88 and ‘92 and then kaput. (One member has been releasing their demos on BC, but it’s slow going.)

@dilmandila Also: Human Radio - one album on Epic or Columbia in 1990. Fairly perfect pop. Found the CD on Discogs a couple of years ago to my joy. The whole album is on YT - my fave track is My First Million.
