    I must have walked past these tiles hundreds of times at South Station and never noticed this. In my defense it’s very low and behind a railing. ~There is no placard or anything explaining what it is.~ There is, in fact, a plaque (see follow-up post). #Boston #MBTA

          @callan @jsit More likely something like a theodolite. They are mermaids surveying the land. Meaning to symbolize the hidden work women have done for the transportation network: https://www.nitscheng.com/wts-boston-unveils-public-art-celebrating-women-in-transportation/
