#OtD 2 Mar 1901 US President McKinley signed the Platt Amendment, giving the US control over Cuba after the Spanish-American war. Restricting Cuban govt policy, it demanded leasing of land to the US, such as in Guantanamo, which continues to this day https://stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/9206/platt-amendment-signed-into-law
