"health official who reportedly intervened to pause a clinical trial on the use of puberty blockers has been removed from any further involvement due to accusations of bias.
Prof Jacob George, who was appointed chief medical and scientific officer at the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in January, raised concerns that led to the Pathways trial being put on hold by the government, according to the Sunday Times.
But the regulator announced on Saturday that George would recuse himself from involvement in the trial after gender-critical social media posts made last year emerged."

No, nothing to do with Google! Gemini is an update of the Gopher protocol, hence the gemini:// protocol at the beginning of the URL instead of https://
I use Lagrange and Deedum, full FOSS, no scraping of your data, text only, ads free and NOTHING going to any big tech!

Ahhhh Gopher Holes and their Gemini equivalents. The internet as it was always supposed to be, full of hobbyists and content that is actually worth reading.
I often get lost in there, imagining that everything is kept running by Jawas

@alexadeswift But are they unsuspending the trial - or does the guy just get to walk away with the damage left in place untouched.
No way he should just recuse himself. This scandal calls into question his ability to conduct his role ethically and appropriately. there should be an investigation into his conduct, with the option of removing him from his senior role.

@alexadeswift I have written to the MHRA:

Dear MHRA,
I am writing regarding the recent recusal of Professor Jacob George, Chief Medical and Scientific Officer, from the PATHWAYS clinical trial. It has been widely reported that this recusal followed the discovery of his "gender critical" social media activity, including comments targeting intersex Olympic athlete Imane Khelif.
In light of this, I have two urgent questions:
(1) Current Status of the Trial: Given that the PATHWAYS trial was paused on February 20, 2026, based on advice from an office led by an individual with a documented personal bias on this specific subject, is the pause still in effect? If so, what steps are being taken to independently re-evaluate the "safety concerns" raised during Professor George’s tenure to ensure they were not motivated by personal ideology?
(2) Professional Standards and Accountability: As the Chief Medical and Scientific Officer, Professor George holds a position of immense public trust. Intervening in a sensitive study without disclosing a personal conflict of interest suggests a failure to meet the MHRA’s required professional and ethical standards. Will the MHRA launch a formal inquiry into this matter to determine if disciplinary measures are warranted, or if other regulatory decisions made since January 2026 have been similarly compromised?
I look forward to your prompt response on how the MHRA intends to restore public confidence in its impartiality.
