    @OGjester

Not sure what else you expect him to do without a majority? The can sue, but as you know that’ll take years to resolve while the damage is being done.

Until the people of the United States elect a Democratic majority in the House & hopefully the Senate as well, unless you want Dems to start breaking laws like Republicans — which would negate their authority, statements, speeches, lawsuits etc are all the Democrats can do.

@Nonilex @OGjester I expect a resignation. But doing his job to slow down fascism would work too. The problem is that he is in the pocket of the same people that own Trump and want what is going on.

Kuwait’s civil aviation authority says a drone has targeted the capital’s main #InternationalAirport & wounded several employees & caused material damage.

Abdullah Rajhi, spox of the civil aviation authority, says the damage is being assessed & repair work is ongoing.

He says that emergency measures are being taken, adding that the situation is under control.

British PM #KeirStarmer says that while the #UK didn’t participate in the attack on #Iran, its planes provided air defense for its people & allies in the region.

“We’ve stepped up protections from British bases & personnel to their highest level,” #Starmer said.

He didn’t comment on the attacks by the #US & #Israel, but condemned Iran’s response that included strikes on many #MiddleEast #allies.

The Iranian leadership is “utterly abhorrent,” has killed its own people & destabilized the region & should never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon, #Starmer said.

He urged de-escalation & a return to negotiations to achieve peace & protect civilians.

“#Iran can end this now,” he said. “They should refrain from further strikes, give up their weapons program & cease the appalling violence & repression against the Iranian people.”

@Nonilex Coming out with supporting “aggressive confrontation” while complaining only that he didn’t have a say in it is a choice I would have liked to see him make differently.

Playing by the rules has us here. Writing strongly-worded statements has us here. We're getting nowhere by adhering to norms and laws.

The moral high ground isn't a bragging point when schoolchildren are being murdered.

We absolutely need to elect a Dem majority. But we need Dems who aren't afraid of their shadows. Dems who will do more than issue a strongly-worded statement. Dems who actually WORK FOR THE PEOPLE. I don't see that in the current Dems in office.

“Moral high ground” isn’t at issue. Living in a rules-based-order world is. I have no interest in the Democratic Party abandoning the rule of law. Right now the US is a failing democracy because of the Republican Party. If both parties abandon the rule of law, there is no chance to ever be a democracy again.

Republicans must be held to account for breaking the law. That cannot happen in a country without any laws.

@Nonilex From a #UK perspective… #Starmer is so far up the #Trump & #Netenyahu respective fundament he cannot tell where daylight enters. He’s just brought the UK into this illegal war, and we can all see through his weasel words. Those three political leaders cannot be out of office and out of power soon enough. Starmer is blind when it comes to the wrongs committed by #Israel, and the #USA

"Not sure what else you expect him to do without a majority?"

What I want Chuck Schumer and his Oreo House Boy Hakeem Jefferies to do is get a backbone and grow a pair

For three decades the Democratic "leadership" has slavishly stayed withing the lines and played by the rules

Their mantra has been (as it was with Joe "Senile" Biden) to celebrate a "comity with our colleagues across the aisle"

Meanwhile their Republican "colleagues across the aisle" have been pissing on Democrats' feet all-the-while smiling in Democrats' faces

It's gotten so Democrats don't even notice that their shoes are always full of Republican urine

@Nonilex @MsMissy @OGjester Yes, but we will need people who will use the rules as aggressively as possible. We need prosecutions (while following due process). We're almost certainly going to need to expand the Supreme Court, which will probably require eliminating the filibuster at least on that issue, otherwise the Court will just make like the Iranian Council of Guardians and ban any efforts to repeal Trumpism. We'll need to replace some Dems via the primaries if they aren't up to doing what must be done.

@Nonilex He could make calls to action to his constituents. He could lead protests. He could organize a march on Washington. He could call for a general strike. He could apologize for and forsake all that AIPAC money he’s taken.

Thinking of things he could do besides writing a meaningless letter is not difficult.

@Nonilex @MsMissy @OGjester I agree, but the Trump regime has just unleashed decades of “unconventional” attacks. Iran is currently droning soft targets around the region with US interests.

This isn’t the 1940s. We have never fully recovered from three highjacked civilian air liners and our “leaders” are fools

We couldn’t even hold Kabul. Iran has 92m people.

Agreed. But where is the will of Dems in Congress to push back against the lawlessness? What are they DOING to work back towards rules-based order?

I am not the only person frustrated that Dems get patted on the back for the minimum - the strongly worded letter. Tell us what they can do to push back - even in the minority. They can hold hearings. They can be a constant media presence to explain the lawlessness. They can do more than complain.

Iran's leadership is indeed murderous, but Starmer is wrong to say "Iran can end this now" when dealing with a mercurial weak-minded bully like Trump.

“As has so often been the case with unilateral presidential uses of force in recent years, there’s no serious argument that either #Congress by #statute or the #Constitution directly authorizes the president to do what he’s done,” said Steve Vladeck, CNN #SCOTUS analyst & professor at Georgetown University Law Center.

For its #Iran strikes last summer, the White House said #Trump relied on Article II of the US #Constitution, which says he has power to direct #US #military forces in engagements necessary to advance American national interests abroad.

“The Justice Department has come up with an increasingly dubious series of arguments in attempts to defend such strikes, but virtually all of those arguments have depended on assertions that the strikes were limited & unlikely to lead to a broader conflict,” Vladeck said. “Even if that were a legal argument, rather than a policy one, it’s hard to take that remotely seriously here.”

                                          Absolutely.

If you have reps who are Dems and you're frustrated with inaction, call them and tell them you will support any primary challenger who promises to do what they're too afraid to do - push back HARD.

I have told my Dem reps this. Many times. They should be afraid to lose their seats unless they do something.

And if they do stand up (ex: Elissa Slotkin) - call their office and praise them. Make them know we're watching them.
