“Moral high ground” isn’t at issue. Living in a rules-based-order world is. I have no interest in the Democratic Party abandoning the rule of law. Right now the US is a failing democracy because of the Republican Party. If both parties abandon the rule of law, there is no chance to ever be a democracy again.

Republicans must be held to account for breaking the law. That cannot happen in a country without any laws.

@Nonilex @MsMissy @OGjester Yes, but we will need people who will use the rules as aggressively as possible. We need prosecutions (while following due process). We're almost certainly going to need to expand the Supreme Court, which will probably require eliminating the filibuster at least on that issue, otherwise the Court will just make like the Iranian Council of Guardians and ban any efforts to repeal Trumpism. We'll need to replace some Dems via the primaries if they aren't up to doing what must be done.

Not sure what else you expect him to do without a majority? The can sue, but as you know that’ll take years to resolve while the damage is being done.

Until the people of the United States elect a Democratic majority in the House & hopefully the Senate as well, unless you want Dems to start breaking laws like Republicans — which would negate their authority, statements, speeches, lawsuits etc are all the Democrats can do.

@Nonilex He could make calls to action to his constituents. He could lead protests. He could organize a march on Washington. He could call for a general strike. He could apologize for and forsake all that AIPAC money he’s taken.

Thinking of things he could do besides writing a meaningless letter is not difficult.

#Iran responded as it had been threatening to do for months — first launching a wave of missiles & drones targeting #Israel. It followed with strikes targeting #US #military installations in #Bahrain, #Kuwait & #Qatar. The #UAE & #Iraq shut down their airspace.

@Nonilex @MsMissy @OGjester I agree, but the Trump regime has just unleashed decades of “unconventional” attacks. Iran is currently droning soft targets around the region with US interests.

This isn’t the 1940s. We have never fully recovered from three highjacked civilian air liners and our “leaders” are fools

We couldn’t even hold Kabul. Iran has 92m people.

The Iranian leadership is “utterly abhorrent,” has killed its own people & destabilized the region & should never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon, #Starmer said.

He urged de-escalation & a return to negotiations to achieve peace & protect civilians.

“#Iran can end this now,” he said. “They should refrain from further strikes, give up their weapons program & cease the appalling violence & repression against the Iranian people.”

It’s unclear what #legal justification the #Trump admin will present for the attacks on #Iran, but experts are already skeptical given the #Constitution’s unambiguous statement that only #Congress can declare #war & the absence of a #law akin to the Iraq War-era Authorization for Use of Military Force.

I am not the only person frustrated that Dems get patted on the back for the minimum - the strongly worded letter. Tell us what they can do to push back - even in the minority. They can hold hearings. They can be a constant media presence to explain the lawlessness. They can do more than complain.

“The Justice Department has come up with an increasingly dubious series of arguments in attempts to defend such strikes, but virtually all of those arguments have depended on assertions that the strikes were limited & unlikely to lead to a broader conflict,” Vladeck said. “Even if that were a legal argument, rather than a policy one, it’s hard to take that remotely seriously here.”

                            Absolutely.

If you have reps who are Dems and you're frustrated with inaction, call them and tell them you will support any primary challenger who promises to do what they're too afraid to do - push back HARD.

I have told my Dem reps this. Many times. They should be afraid to lose their seats unless they do something.

And if they do stand up (ex: Elissa Slotkin) - call their office and praise them. Make them know we're watching them.

I too am frustrated. I expect the hearings will come now that this attack is happening.

Dems have held other hearings on Trump / GOP lawlessness, but the media has not covered them extensively. It has been a successful strategy by Trump & Republicans to unrelentingly overwhelm the airwaves with their constant outrageousness, drowning out Democrats’ counter actions.

@Nonilex My guess is they initially won't bother, then cobble together some half-assed and thoroughly ad hoc pablum to throw away on Fox Sunday.

Here’s an example of the pathetic subservience of Republicans. This is #Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst (who used her involvement as a soldier in the invasion of Iraq to promote her political career):

"If negotiations fail, then that is on the table," said Ernst. "But, unlike the previous administration, there is just no weakness in this White House. If the president does have to make that hard decision to strike Iran, he will do it." (Feb 24)

Ernst backs Trump's proposed Iran military strikes

(Washington) -- Iowa Senator Joni Ernst says military strikes against Iran should be on the table for President Trump.

@Nonilex He could make calls to action to his constituents. He could lead protests. He could organize a march on Washington. He could call for a general strike. He could apologize for and forsake all that AIPAC money he’s taken.

Thinking of things he could do besides writing a meaningless letter is not difficult.

#Shahed #drone seen hitting heavily populated part of #Dubai

An Iranian #ShahedDrone struck near the #FairmontHotel in Dubai, causing a large explosion & fire, according to numerous geolocated videos & eyewitnesses.
One witness told CNN she saw the drone strike while walking on the West Palm Beach near the hotel. Initially, she thought the drone was “a bird falling out of the sky,” then saw the drone bank left sharply before detonating.
