    Nonetheless, the migrant experience has two sides to the same coin.

    For every moment of alienation, there’s one country explored, another language learned, a new slice of human experience lived firsthand, and a series of uncomfortable and exhilarating moments that shaped who you are.

    When I start slipping into the spiral of displacement, I take great comfort in leafing through my diaries and fondly rejoicing in all those journeys that led me here.

      Those are lovely diaries! I always intend to incorporate ephemera, but often, while I visit someplace new, I'm fully occupied with living in the moment, so that doesn't happen. I reviewed a handful of journals that I kept at random times last week. It's interesting how my current perspectives of those times differ from my perspectives at the time.
