My daughter is struggling with job applications where they ask you for a long list of technologies and being the tech person in the house I'm taking the brunt of it. "Joomla isn't real. HTML is real, Javascript is real, Joomla isn't real. Nobody would call anything that. It sounds like the name of the villain in a movie where a poodle wins a beauty contest. Why are tech people capitalizing every other letter? Tell people to get their shit together."

@mhoye My thoughts, if she isn't aware of the basics of social engineering I'd introduce her to that and suggest that as a starting model for applications. Specially in current era with all the software screening.

"Joomla, Drupal ... is Drupal like RuPaul's depressed alter ego? RuPaul's Eeyore? Look, I work on a computer that's a combination of dabean and cinnamon, I know tech people are all weirdos but why are you like this? You expect me to believe that something called "InMagic DB/Textmate" is real and not just somebody ran out of ideas? Yeah fine Deh Bee Ahn. I'm calling it "da bean".

@mhoye InMagic/DB Textworks was a deep cut, jeebus. I worked with that 30 years ago. Your daughter should not be working anywhere that still uses that!

"Why are they asking teenagers for proficiency with Meta? There are zero real teenagers on Meta. Oh, I guess Instagram... What is a Slack? Oh, it's just Discord for people who care about interest rates. What is a Jira. Tech people need to stop naming things, this is stupid."

@mhoye Cobol, Fortran, Lisp, Basic, Pascal, Perl, Smalltalk.. those were some good names! I think Linux was when names got bad… how to say it? It sounds wrong. Java? Cmon that's taken. Web 2.0 was def the worst though, with the dropped vowels.. seems like I forgot them all so will have to look them up again for a laugh.

@mhoye they want proficiency in meta because that's the business console for merged Facebook and Instagram brand accounts on the advertising and analytics platform

@mhoye telling tech people to get their shit together is basically all we do here.
