    American combat deaths in World War I: 54,000.
    American soldiers killed by flu in World War I: 45,000.
    They would have given anything for a flu vaccine.

    @petergleick

    Is this another form of germ warfare?

    Or just the Hegseth/Trump way of showing more disdain for our members of the military?

      @petergleick It would absurdly easy to deliver aerosolized flu droplets via drone.

            @petergleick Can't wait for the death toll in future wars on the US side to be higher for disease than for KIA 🥲

              Oh, that’s great. I can just imagine the effect of pathogens sweeping through the military and what that does for combat readiness and execution of a war.

                Oh goody. Flu will run rampant through a couple of the local school districts next year because of this dumbassery. Guess I should buy even more masks.

                  @GhostOnTheHalfShell @petergleick I mean, considering what the American military has been used for for the past 150 years, wouldn't that be a good thing to anyone who values goodness?

                  "Oh no, the army won't be so efficient in their next Wounded Knee Massacre, or Marine Invasion of Haiti, or their carpet-bombing of Cambodia, or the next time they want to kill half a million Iraqis!"

                  It's a good thing if they all flu up.

                    Oh no. It’s magical thinking. They’re the best and fittest and because of that can’t catch flu, and even if they do, *they’ll* be fine, so they don’t need a vaccine!

                    Even if they are fine, how many people who won’t be will they give it to? They don’t care, because those people are *weak*, so they don’t matter to the magical thinkers.

                    (I’m related to two people who think like this.)

                          No, it really isn’t. It is a immoral crime to condition military to be bloodthirsty killers without restraint, and it is another immoral crime to condemn them to illness and death.
