      @StripeyYena i somehow try to live with it. When we plan some longer experimental session, I pause the updates for few weeks. Once that is done, update and restart. Pause again.

        @prema Which is completely justified, but this is a big hunk of machinery that runs 24/7 and is operated by a number of people, so all I really want is a button that says "Don't fuck around until I tell you to update!" like in the olden days...

          @StripeyYena yes, i have the same problem with users 🙂 i am trying to convince them to check and in case postpone the updates, or do the whole routine themselves.
          Possibly i will start making big motivational posters: “Did you check the Windows Updates?”
          Also:
          “Write into the instrument log book”
