I’ve been making my own willow charcoal over the last few nights and if you’d like to try it, it’s a very simple process and produces a lovely charcoal.
1. Cut sticks of willow and strip off the bark;
2. Place equal thickness lengths in a tin can and cover the top with foil and pierce once;
3. Place in a hot fire and wait first for steam to appear through the hole in the top then flame;
4. Remove tin when the flame dies.
Takes 10-20 mins in the fire.
