    @ApostateEnglishman @mloxton @MissConstrue @TheBreadmonkey @overholt

    i am eternally weirded out by teenagers and young adults wearing "misfits" t shirts

    are they musicologists? or are they just "cool t shirt bro"?

      time collapses for them. anything "before" happening within the timeframe of their parents age just makes sense to them, because they view their parents as ancient and omnipotent at their young age. it's strangely endearing

      I remember my kids referring to a request for help with homework as "seeking the wisdom of the ancients", or even "asking the ancestors" if they were feeling particularly scamp-like. They're teenagers now, so they only consider us ancient, not wise.

        @eswag

        The arc of parental wisdom is fun.

        "You must know everything!"
        ...
        "You don't know anything!"
        ...
        "So... You were totally right about my taxes."

          @benroyce @mloxton @MissConstrue @TheBreadmonkey @overholt Not sure about that one, but Nirvana t-shirts remain as popular as ever over here with the teens (exact same designs as 30 years ago too!).

          I've also noticed Dr. Martens, Converse and Vans have made a big comeback with the yoof. It's surreal to find myself surrounded by kids dressed no differently than the grunge crowd when I was their age.

          The only difference is that they have more tattoos now! 🤷🏻‍♂️

                yeah the chatty age above eventually yields to the age of monosyllabic interactions and amorphous resentment

                dad above should enjoy it while he can. despite being driven to ego death

                  The increase in tats and piercings is noticeable.

                  The only time I ever briefly danced with the thought of a tat, was maybe to get my military ID number engraved on my wrist as a daily reminder never ever to do that again.

                    we are united in cringe eternal reminder of one week long ago, and nothing else

                            I didn't have the courage to get a sleeve length tattoo until I was in my 50s. I had a series of incredibly traumatic events happen in sequence, and as I was trying to put all the pieces back together, I looked at the art I'd had on my office wall for years while I doddled and hemmed and hawed about getting a piece that big. It's one of my favorite arts that I've done, and one day I took it off the wall, called my friend who owns a shop and said "I'm getting a tattoo today. Do you want to do it, or am I forced to let amateurs lay hands on me where you can see it?"

                            It took 6-8 hours, I had to get up and walk around a couple of times, but it's gorgeous. The looks I get sometimes though, standing there looking all senior executive consultant, then I push my sleeves up and it's serpents and moons and torches and keys and spears. Heh.

                                    @benroyce @MissConstrue @mloxton @TheBreadmonkey @overholt Spare a thought for my ex-fiance, whose eccentric academic father would pick her up from school sporting a "mullet" haircut, wearing fitted floral shirts, flared corduroy trousers (corduroy has made a bit of a comeback in the UK today, but was deeply unfashionable at the time!) and...clogs. Wooden clogs.

                                    She actually became quite tearful one evening after too much wine, remembering the shame and trauma it caused her to see him arrive. 😂

                                    @ApostateEnglishman @benroyce @mloxton @TheBreadmonkey @overholt I deeply feel her pain. After my father became one of Them, he took to wearing paisley golfing pants. And golfed. It was all so embarrassing. A man who once hung outside the windows of the Prankster bus,handing out lsd to passersby...a paisley wearing republican golfer. And they wonder why I cut off contact...

                                      The increase in tats and piercings is noticeable.

                                      The only time I ever briefly danced with the thought of a tat, was maybe to get my military ID number engraved on my wrist as a daily reminder never ever to do that again.

                                          yeah luckily lewis and clark could get the ancient alien tech from the grand canyon to george washington just in time to beat the british in the revolutionary war. napoleon almost got it instead. that would have totally screwed with history, and i understand history well and can appreciate the implications (/s)

                                          @benroyce @tantramar @mina @Bugspriet @TheBreadmonkey @overholt It’s how we got Mt Rushmore too! They say it was dynamite and decades, but I’ve seen dynamite, it just makes craters, it doesn’t make faces! And how would dynamite even know what George looked like? Whereas ancient aliens, they were there with him, propelling that boat across the Potomac. They made the artist paint the alien tech out. Because conspiracy. True story! 😇
