The trouble is that if you locked me up with reams and a pencil in some FP Castle turret and periodically posted Chateau Musar through the catflap, I couldn't bloody do it.

I need people to function.
And I need to make a difference to education.

@pigworker no, go to a literal castle away from all distractions. In Germany, IIRC, but it might have been Austria. I think his supervisor (Alan Bundy) was friends with the owner.

@pozorvlak Alan has influential friends, to be sure.
I've often thought about getting a place on Bute and installing writer-uppers as rent-free caretakers, bunging CalMac a few bob not to let them leave the island.

@pigworker probably healthier than my writing-up strategy, which was to get very slightly drunk for six months.

@pigworker in my case it was all the random spirits my travel-mad flatmates had brought back from their various trips. The Ecuadorian aguardiente was a particular low point.

@pozorvlak not good; this is a job for habit formation

@pigworker indeed, my postdoc would have gone a lot better if writing had been a habit rather than something I had to chemically trick myself into doing.

@pigworker also, have you ever tried Ecuadorian aguardiente? I swear, it tastes like burnt tyres. Filthy stuff.

@pozorvlak can't say I have; I suppose it was what finally persuaded Julian Assange to leave

@pigworker I feel that, we’re social animals, it’s ingrained in us. That said, me personally when I want to do certain types of “work”, I just want to be left alone then when I’m stack or done then I will come out and socialize a bit then I go back to my “cave” lol. Tbh, most of the time, when I work. I prefer the solitary option with little social interaction cause I find socializing more than necessary to be distracting.

@Zer_dyn Sure. My work has facets. The deep dive, I need to myself (which is not to say I'm never on the spot). The figuring out how to talk about it, I need friends. But I'm not comfortable in isolation, and I do go mad when locked up.

@pigworker
I think the reason you find “people” adding to your self actualization is because you’re probably surrounded by good, and wise people.
If you were surrounded by (die hard MAGA fans) or (virtue signaling people on the left that label you without knowing you) then you wouldn’t like “people” and if (KKK members, ISIS, Nazis, Zionist imperialists… just any terrorist group) then you wouldn’t just not like them/ppl, you would want to kill them… tbh maybe that’s just me, and I’m projecting -

I work to make it morally too hot for hate.

@pigworker now I get what you’re saying, I could relate to that to some degree

@pigworker I love that, “making it too hot to hate” is perfect, I’m sorry but I might have to steal that, that said if asked and when need be, I’m crediting you for that line. But anyways, back on topic, It’s like there is so much love in your heart and around you, the place is like the sun, your presence makes the vampires(drainers) just stay away lol

@Zer_dyn By all means!
But no, it's not that I'm sunshine. It's that I'm a bitch.

@pigworker tbh, let me chill out, I don’t actually want to “kill” those people or hate them, they just cause mental and emotional strain on me, they’re more of an annoyance. I wouldn’t wish God to put a button in front of me where I could push it and people like Netanyahu, Trump, Putin would die, cause I’m afraid I wouldn’t push it, I will seek an alternative solution. The thing about isolation even though it be lonely, it’s peaceful.
