@hetzner I am extremely thankful for the one time sponsorship but with the new price increase it’s adding roughly €2400 to our bills on a yearly basis

Is there room to talk about this or is it set in stone? We’re trying to offer a better solution to the big tech web but it’s getting harder and harder this way

@stux @hetzner Just moved up a tier on Patreon, @stux- not a huge amount, but I hope the extra helps.

@stux @hetzner Any room to optimise usage to try and bring the compute/storage requirements down a bit?

@stux @hetzner You might be able to get clever with cloud stuff and the API's but i'm not sure how realistic that is with Mastodon

@stux Reminder to all that you don’t have to have an account on mstdn.social to support mstdn.social or any other instance. If you’re a Fedizen who can help out, please consider.

Just got a reply that it’s because of “the price change that took effect in April, which we announced to you during the week of February 22–27.”

So it’s permanent 😿 The one time sponsorship is awesome but this..

So heads up for people who host at Hetzner 💸

@stux Yeah the local 'center that hosted stuff for work doubled the price just because they could this year >_<

@stux Yeah, big bump in prices for compute this year. Blame the AI guys buying up all the hardware I guess.

The price bumps still leave Hetzner about the best value around though I think.

Shame they aren't an ongoing sponsor though, that's what I assumed when they said they'd contribute. Some value of compute to spend each month. 😞

@stux Wow, that's quite a big increase. I guess this is the new normal considering computer part prices have been skyrocketing in recent months 🥲
