@alisynthesis It’s a beauty! And you can use it to bludgeon anyone who might try to take it.

@troublewithwords ha! Reminds me of a song that has the honor of being hooky, creepy, quirky, funny, and sad all at once.

@alisynthesis it’s the best feature of mechanical keyboards, isn’t it? That and they are built like tanks plus you get to learn about dialectic grease

@NigelTufnel exactly! clearly the cheap entry level one i had was not the real deal! (I know Mechanical Keyboard People probably think Keychron is entry level, but they are in a cult.)

@alisynthesis I mean, the keyboard looks sweet and all, but I'm just admiring those scales! Apparently available at https://digital-scales-company.co.uk/kitchen-scales/my-weigh-kd8000-professional-bakers-percentage-kitchen-scale-8kg-x-1g for a mere £35.

            Mains powered: ✔

If only they went down to 0.1g accuracy…

@miblo it's a great scale! It does percentages and everything. I got it a couple of years ago when I started making bread and I honestly don't know how I ever lived without a kitchen scale. I weigh stuff all the time now.

And note that it's wired only, so it's this heavy with no battery in it. That's just the case and the mechanics. When I pulled the box out of the mailbox, I was so confused at the weight.

@alisynthesis i've got 3 Keychrons now - 2 at home, 1 at work. all slim keys, mechanicals. all plenty of weight for their size but i'm sure not near as chunky as that beast you've got there.

@alisynthesis Right, sweet! Yeah, I'm intrigued by this percentages feature. Imagining it could even be pretty much this "ratios" idea I dreamt up the other month: https://mas.to/@miblo/115951579505700178

"That's a great keyboard...FOR ME TO POOP ON."

I'm done buying stuff with batteries unless it's necessary. I bought this thing in 2022, and now I have two options: a) take the battery out, in which case it will lose its custom Linux profile, or b) live on the edge and risk a fire in my studio.

I need it to remember profiles to be functional for me, so I'm replacing it with a wired Keychron that I think will suit me. I guess I'll remove the battery and save it as an extra keyboard.

@alisynthesis@io.waxandleather.com I also have a nphy board and am waiting for the dactyl I ordered to get here because I am just over the 75% form factor.

Keychron makes really nice boards. Your new one should serve you well

Okay, the Keychron keyboard I got on sale to replace this bulging-battery POS is comically heavy.

Also very satisfyingly clicky, thank goodness. I guess this blue is not a popular color, but I think it's freaking awesome. I sincerely hope to use this keyboard until the day I die. (on which day I sincerely hope not to be typing.)

@unsafelyhotboots I kind of miss a numpad for sure, but the shorter keyboard works better for me ergonomically at this point. I did gain the separated arrows, etc., which I think will be really nice.

I was happy with the nuphy, and was bummed when that happened to the battery. I'm definitely going to keep it around. But still, fun new keyboard is fun!

@miblo yep, that's pretty much exactly what it does, just in percentages conceptually instead of ratios! My cousin who's a pretty serious baker told me about it, and it's pretty awesome.

@tsrono I had no idea it would be that heavy. But hey, I don't play bass, and I sold my 70s Strat, so... studio weapon!

@miblo@mas.to @alisynthesis@io.waxandleather.com They're pretty nice. I got one after finding all the battery-only powered ones would eventually just end up draining batteries.

Although the blue LED backlight has now worn out due to be left on all the time, oops...
