The way that I'm going to make NL's codeplatform entirely pink, to compensate for having to de-pink my house 🥲🌸

This is me manifesting moving out of Amsterdam btw. I don't know where to yet, as long as there is more nature, sun and a house with a garden.
VERY open to suggestions 🫶
@Gina well, my aunt lived near Loosdrecht at this place…
I found that place nice and quiet. Loosdrechtse Plassen are near-by, but Hilversum is also near. But I think you meant not only outside of Amsterdam, more like outside of .nl?

-
@Gina I generally would recommend Maastricht. It's a lovely city with a bunch of NS IC connections. But also a train to Germany every half hour and an easy connection to Liège from there you're fast in France, Luxembourg or even the UK and Cologne or Frankfurt.
And some interesting landscapes are just 15 minutes by bike from outside of the city center. I took these pictures yesterday with my GF on a small cycle trip :3

@Gina
I don't know if the US is on the table but climate wise I would recommend Northern California or if you can put up with hurricanes the southern Atlantic coast. Between Charleston and Savannah. -

@Gina Got houses with gardens and nature galore, but sun is off for three-month breaks at times.

@Gina Certainly more interesting landscapes than Randstad

Makes sense. I am bound to NL too, at least for now, due to infrastructure

I found it way easier to get housing in Gelderland, Overrijsel etc. More affordable, more options and generally more nature. The general attitude is way different than Randstad too. In my experience: more laid back.
Are you looking to buy or rent?
@h3artbl33d I'm looking at both. My budget is up to 2k for renting and up to €500.000 for a house (which I know is ridiculous, but I sold an apt in Amsterdam a while back).
The thing is.. in most of the Netherlands it's just not worth it?? I'm not paying 2k for a shitty shoebox apt. Or half a million euro's for a rijtjeshuis. Esp when I could buy the house of my dreams in a location of my dreams, like this beauty close to Fontainebleau:

@Gina Looking to rent or to own? Spain is super affordable, but there's a hefty up-front tax when purchasing a home. Lots of sun and open skies, though.
Italy is also trying to attract foreign workers with very generous real estate offers right now.
@Legit_Spaghetti for now I'm bound to the Netherlands, due to my job (which I love). I'd only move abroad for a similar role in my field. Something tech policy or advocacy related.
-
@Gina can you do remote work? Then Limburg might work for you. Weather's a bit better and there are some nice corners there.
@fedops I wish. But also, if I had a remote job I'd probably move a bit further south

@ij somewhere green in the Netherlands would be fine for now too. The problem is that my budget (half a million btw?!?) mostly allows for crappy rijtjeshuizen like this soulless brick box:

"But Gina what's wrong with your house in Amsterdam?"
Yall, I used to have a beautiful garden, where my cats could play outside, and now I live in a soulless shoebox for 2k a month that gets NO SUN. Literally none. It's entirely north facing. Plus, I'm so over Amsterdam. I'm old. I want peace and quiet and greenery and gardening.

Wow. What the actual F. I knew that the Dutch housing market was broken beyond repair - but seeing that beauty for the price of an acceptable rijtjeshuis in the achterhoek (and that is a steal compared to the pricing in Amsterdam)... Utter madness.
Personally, I would save up a bit, get my affairs in order and move yesteryear if my circumstances would allow me to.
(my work mostly relates to IT infrastructure - and touching the servers very once in a while makes me very happy, moving to rural France I'd miss out on that)
Buying right now is nothing short of placing a bet - I don't think the prices are going to plumet in a couple of years but who knows?
Are you okay if I DM you a house that I wanted to get? Rather not have that one in public due to opsec reasons.

Between Charleston and Savannah.@Darkasvim I always wanted to live in the US when I was younger (actually lived in Idaho for a year when I was 16), but not with the current political climate.

@Gina I moved from Seattle, in the rainy cloudy green US Pacific Northwest, to Tucson in the the sunny dry yet surprisingly green US Southwest.
I miss the conveniences, but I love the sun and relative quiet.

@h3artbl33d sure! I love looking at houses, lol.

@Gina I have no idea about the prices there, but the houses are not that large either. It were 2-person bungalows first and then another floor was added later, but I fear it's not cheap either because of the near-by plassen...

@Gina moving out of the city was the best thing I did for the last 10 years

@Gina @h3artbl33d lots of really nice houses in Groningen for less than 500k

@Gina those always remind me of Vivarium.
