    There's two ways to write a joke. You take a little thing and make it big, and treat it with the utmost importance. Or the other way to do it, the better way, is you take a very important thing, then do the opposite.

    Either way, it juxtaposes the absurd with the profound. And that dissonance is art.

      This blew my mind. The example he gives of the first style is Seinfeld, “It’s a show about nothing”.

      I guess an example of the opposite would be Macdonald himself, or someone like George Carlin who made comedy out of the biggest subjects, religion, war, and government.

      I’ve become fascinated by Macdonald over the last few years, a comedian’s comedian, someone who spent his professional life dissecting and studying comedy. The eternal questions - what is funny, and why?
