On the rails again… #Interrail #CrossBorderRail
This is the last day of our little May Day Weekend trip, and @wendy, a friend and I are doing the now familiar and comfy ride back to Barcelona via Lyon.
Today's Itinerary: https://moof.space/trip/2026-05-03
We start the day off on the somewhat unkempt Z 27500 series TER from Genève to Lyon Part Dieu. This train feels like it's been unloved for a while, the uphosltery looks like it hasn't been maintained in 20 years, there are signs of wear all over the interior, the mechanical seat recline is slipping when the train accelerates, and the suspension feels like we're travelling on a water bed.
We finally got round to tasting the Café just outside the NW exit to Genève Cornavin - Oh Martine ! - and it was pretty good food for reasonable (for Switzerland) prices, a nice hearty breakfast to see day through.

La France, je suis dans vous !
As we arrive at Bellegarde my friend asks “this derelict station is worth stopping at?”
Much like this train, this station has definitely seen better days. Nevertheless, there do seem to be quite a few people on the platforms, so it can’t be that forgotten…

And you can tell we're not in Switzerland any more. Every time I try to press "send" on a toot, I enter a tunnel or cutting, and we lose signal.
Signal on trains is an issue for me in France, generally.
Strangely enough, the one train I always seem to have good signal (and WiFi) on in France is the AVE. Shame even that disappears south of the border…

@pglux.bsky.social One of the platforms and the station building, which was what was out of our window, definitely look closed and possibly condemned

And I'm on the AVE back down towards Barcelona, have been for a few hours now.
Normally, I can be quite productive on this train But today my ADHD doesn't seem to be letting me hyperfocus on anything for this trip. Maybe it's because the train is uncharacteristically full today, though that could be because I tend not to travel on it on a Sunday.
It's also starting to register that I'm not going to be back on this train for a while, I've decided that I'm going to spend the rest of May on a travel break, at least for long distance stuff, and I honestly don't know when or if I'll be travelling in June. If anyone wants to suggest anything, feel free to reach out.
I do have plans for another Jet Lag game in Germany in July, and some travel in Northern Spain in August.
I'll keep tooting about travels and travel plans, but this is the last trip for a while.
Anyway, currently at Narbonne, and we're about to enter the pretty bit of the track.
