Ahh yes, a big tech company did something big-techy and all the smug is oozing out of the woodwork. "Use IRC, it worked for years! #Discord is just channels where you had to be there and if you weren't, it's gone!"

Sorry but ... what?! At least Discord messages persist when you're not logged in, IRC was literally the definition of "If you weren't there it's gone" unless you deliberately set up some kind of system to catch messages while you were gone, and IRC does like 10% of what Discord gives users out of the box without having to set up 3rd party integrations.
I love IRC as much as the next guy, and Discord has a LOT of problems, but it's just the whole " Just use Linux" thing all over again innit?

@zersiax I don't want to pollute your timeline with swears, so I'll just say I'm tired of this.

@zersiax There are lots of alternatives for text. For voice we can go back to teamspeak, mumble or something. But I have yet to find a good alternative for video/screen sharing.

@murphy1312 Yeah there's plenty of alternatives, some more meh then others particularly for people who don't love spellunking through the internet to make something they've come to expect work, but video is definitely trickiest. Can all just hop on Microsoft Teams, no? /s

@zersiax @murphy1312 I don't know if Teamspeak changed this since, but when I first used it, it wouldn't use my webcam as a microphone. It just refused to us that with my headphones as speakers.

"We can go back to <X>" sometimes ignores *why* we left it to begin with.

@AT1ST @murphy1312 I think that's a good point. The IRC suggestion is usually joined by also using forums, while I am relatively sure a lot of things ended up on forums because people got tired of having to repeat it on IRC/AIM/MSN/what have you all the time in a lot of cases xd
