So another drama over on #Bluesky. David Roberts aka Volts wrote a thread about how Bluesky has failed to attain the influence of old Twitter and is just a liberal echo chamber. You can imagine the response this received, but the idea that chasing influence is dependent on a hostile corporate network, be it Bluesky or X, is never questioned. It is a complete surrender of agency and responsibility for actually asserting influence.

@mastodonmigration the thing about this 'echo chamber' notion is....we already know what the other side says and thinks, it's rammed down our throats in places like Twitter. They are not a mystery, they are not a puzzle....

@joeinwynnewood@mstdn.social This thesis is mirrored in Carol Cadwalladr's recent piece: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/nov/11/a-new-era-dawns-americas-tech-bros-now-strut-their-stuff-in-the-corridors-of-power Again, the issue is loss of control of the "pipes" as she puts it. Now to put this into context, people fleeing from X to Bluesky, are 'renters' moving en masse from one hell hole tenement to a bright new apartment complex, but owned by the same landlords. That's not going to work. We will squander this moment of opportunity we have to become owners in this digital community. more... 2/n
