    Hello all.
New to this place, and wanted to introduce myself.

I'm living in Denmark (don't worry, I'll stick to English), working in programming but am currently struggling with burn-out and other related stress/depression issues (non-diagnosed, simply working through it all), living on my own, and am looking to find and possible create a new voice for myself outside tech and normal life.
I'm going to try and find/experiment with new hobbies to share about, food stuff, music and other such things, so I'm looking for others to follow for a more artistic and mindful approach, than what I'm usually exposed.

Anyway - enough rambling, and hiya to you all. Hope to 'see' you around.

@alsvha Welcome from Canada, there, eh? Please feel free to let loose with the Danish, too — you never know whose Duolingo needs the practice…

#Welcome @alsvha! Agree with @Firlefanz; follow early and often. Unfollow/mute/block/filter as needed to curate your feed. You're in charge here, not some opaque algorithm, but of course that also means that you need to look around for things you want in your feed to get started.

You might well be able to find locals in #DanmarkSkifter. The "local" feed is also a decent place to start for inspiration. Check the profiles of people you see posting interesting stuff for more people and hashtags.

@alsvha I haven’t quite burned out but for the past few years, have been looking for more meaning in life, especially after nearly 40 years in tech.

I found some podcasts to be quite enlightening, especially those outlining the lives of people not involved in the fast paced life of tech and software development.

              For example: https://podcasts.apple.com/ie/podcast/sunday-miscellany/ or https://podcasts.apple.com/ie/podcast/the-dublin-review-podcast/

Your mileage may vary, as they say.

              Stay safe. Stay positive.

@MamaLake thank you , and not really. I know a bit of piano but never got good enough to be able to read notes on the fly, so I used to transcribe them and memorized the few tunes. I did try to get back into it done years back, maybe worth exploring.
What about you? Musical expertises? I've always admired people with that talent, envious even.

@alsvha it's good to tinker around and find something you wanna keep practicing. My mom is a piano teacher, so I gre up playing and can read music, but mostly I focus on vocals and songwriting.

                            @alsvha In a word: Brexit 🙂

The chaos and idiocy from about 2015 onwards got me hooked on news and current affairs podcasts. It was like a soap opera!

It also seemed to align with me running out of new and interesting music to listen to on my daily commute.

Recently I’ve moved off current affairs and news podcasts because every podcast is about Trump. It’s just too draining.

I tend to listen to book review or history podcasts now, with a couple of tech ones thrown in.

@t3rcermillenium Yeah, the news cycle can be brutal. I'm trying to cut down on news-following as well. So I can fully understand the need to cut down on it/podcasts.
I also wouldn't want to listen to podcasts while commuting (driving) - it would steal focus if too interesting, then it's easier to bob along to music 😄

Luckily I've fallen into rabbit-holes of new music in the last few years, which has helped me expand my playlists significantly 😄

@t3rcermillenium I've not followed 'Brexit' much the latter years, is it still rough?

@alsvha I’m Irish, living in Dublin. So still in the EU.

But as an Irish person, watching the chaos in the UK has a certain therapeutic effect given our shared history 🙂

The impact on the UK GDP is something like 6-8% below where it would otherwise be (https://cepr.org/voxeu/columns/brexits-slow-burn-hit-uk-economy).

And there was also a significant increase in the number of Irish passports issued when Brexit kicked in, so that’s unlikely to be a good sign of how Brexit is doing (https://www.irishlegal.com/articles/record-surge-in-irish-passport-applications-from-british-citizens-since-brexit).

@t3rcermillenium Yeah, I can easily think that there is a significant part of history playing a part in how Ireland perceives the effect of Brexit, for better and/or worse 🙂
